Hazardous Tree Removal Along San Leandro Creek

Location: San Leandro
Year Completed: 2025

Based on a management plan adopted in 2015, the District has completed several phases of clearing hazardous trees–primarily eucalyptus–from within San Leandro Creek. A windstorm in early March 2022 brought 35 mph winds to San Leandro. Over the summer months of 2022, the District removed many hazardous trees.

In November 2024, helicopter-assisted tree removal was completed, providing safe access to steep areas while minimizing environmental disturbance. This innovative approach eliminated the need for heavy equipment within the creek, reducing erosion and protecting existing vegetation.

Building the Davis Street Pump Station

Location: San Leandro
Year Completed: 2014

Flooding was once a frequent problem along the western end of Davis Street, west of Interstate 880. The existing gravity drainage system could not move water effectively during high tides and major storms, creating flood risks for nearby homes and businesses.

To address this problem, the District constructed the Davis Street Pump Station in 2014. Today, the pump station helps protect the surrounding community by moving stormwater to a higher elevation so it can continue into the San Francisco Bay.
