Zone 4

As our flood control infrastructure continues to age, current funding levels are not keeping pace with inflation, increased maintenance costs, and growing climate impacts. The District is committed to using the funds available to maintain the existing infrastructure, respond to critical and emergency repairs, continue to pursue state or federal grants, and work to protect the County from flooding with limited resources.

PROJECTS

Line A Improvements

In fiscal years 2008 and 2009, the District began construction of the first phase of a project in the Russell City neighborhood of Hayward to restore and stabilize channel banks and bottom along Line A between Cabot Boulevard and the Union Pacific Railroad. The District also began the design of the second project phase to stabilize and restore the lower reach of Line A between the confluence of Line E and the Cabot Boulevard crossing. Both project phases will increase channel capacity to contain a 100-year flood event. Following construction, the channel will be landscaped with native vegetation to restore natural habitat.
